Season 2 - Episode 27: Judith Phoenix-Meese - Transitioning Your Career
Judith Phoenix-Meese
With a background originally founded in Executive Recruitment, I now specialise as an Executive CV Writer and Transition Coach. I have worked for myself since 2005 through my business Phoenix True Potential Ltd. I had always created Executive CVs as an integral part of my role as a Head-hunter, but in 2008 I made the decision to focus entirely on this aspect of my work – not least of which because I absolutely love it!
Like most businesses, mine has evolved over the last 17 years. My consultation process is extremely detailed, very much more than reviewing my clients’ various roles. In giving them the time and space they need to talk about the reasons they aren’t entirely happy in their current role, this quickly developed into a process which has a coaching style, which happens organically. It means I can bring greater value to my clients in encouraging and supporting them in processing and managing the many factors which go hand-in-hand when you are transitioning from one role to another.
Whilst the success of my services is based on many years’ experience, an ‘inside’ view of the world of recruitment and a significant level of writing ability, I’m also someone who works with real empathy. In my earlier career I was made redundant 4 times. I have also worked for organisations where I was sometimes treated quite badly. So, I know first-hand the considerable knock-on effect when you aren’t happy at work. The fact that I can help other people find their path to a role or organisation where they are much happier is one of the many reasons I love what I do.
I’m privileged to have detailed discussions with such an enormously diverse range of people. It means I hear about different organisations, sectors, skills, technologies, methodologies… I learn something new every day! Having this insight into other people’s lives always reminds me how much there is in the world that I don’t know, which brings the opportunity to always strive to be better.

Season 2 - Ep: 1 - Winifred Potenza - Artist | Potter | Creator - Hearts of the World
Winifred Potenza - I have been an artist for over fifty years, 25 in New York and the remainder in Northern California. I work in series which could be 6 to 200+ paintings. Some of these series are The Hearts Of The World, The Peaceable Realm, California Landscapes, Domesticated, etc.
The Peaceable Realm was a 360 ft painting was exhibited internationally and at the United Nations.
The Hearts Of The World is a series of paintings intended to honor every nation in the world by using the color and elements of each nation’s national symbol, the flag, to create another universally understood symbol, the Heart.
Presentations have been made to His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the United Nations, among others.
However, and fortunately, seven years ago, I became a hermit. My studio, a converted barn, is located in a small town in Northern California. it has given me more freedom, away from the logistics involved with being an artist.
Three years ago, after working almost every day for over fifty years, I quit painting (well, almost…) and have been working - hand building - with clay ever since. I became a potter and sculptor.

Episode 44: Judith Phoenix-Meese Career Transition Coach & Executive CV Writer
Judith Phoenix-Meese
Born and bred in Nottingham, UK, I’m an Executive CV Writer & Transition Coach who works with clients globally. I have worked for myself since 2005, prior to that having worked as an Executive Recruiter & Head-Hunter for 10 years. Although I absolutely loved recruitment, I equally loved what my colleagues considered to be ‘admin’, namely writing job advertisements, candidate profiles and CVs. I also relished every conversation with every candidate and every client – finding out about them, what made them tick and how I could help them achieve the outcome they wanted. So, it is no surprise this ultimately evolved into the services I provide for my clients today.
I recognize that I am privileged to have a job I love so much. I love literally every element – the introductory conversation with a new client, the consultation, the research, creating a first draft, fine-tuning each piece of work, providing on-going support to clients until they secure their next role. From start to finish, I love it all.
Plus, I get to learn something new every day. Having detailed discussions with such an enormously diverse range of people means I hear about different organizations, sectors, skills, technologies, methodologies… I’m a big fan of learning; it’s what keeps us fresh, vibrant, and on our toes. Having this insight into other people’s lives always makes me realize how much there is in the world that I don’t know, which brings the opportunity to always strive to be better.

I have never forgotten that the main reason for my work is to provide adequate support to the musician and his precious instrument.
I chose to work closely with musicians, precisely to consciously develop a construction and restoration process that would allow me to give clear answers to difficult questions.
And again, I try to continue building instruments with the idea of offering my personal vision and concept of "Italian sound".

Episode 29: Ruth Davis
Abstract Floral Artist
Ruth Davis
Ruth Davis is a renowned self-taught abstract artist, her medium is acrylic on canvas.
Her grandad was an artist and her grandmother was a keen gardener. Ruth has always been surrounded by nature which has inspired the main themes to her colorful, unique, botanical artwork.
She began painting professionally after her grand parents passed away. The inspiration for her colorful botanical artwork, comes from the garden of her grandparents, Carmen and James.
Ruth's unique style of paintings have been displayed in galleries and many popular magazines.
Ruth Davis Artist Statement:
My art is how I show both the beauty and the unexpected madness of the nature in our every day. My work captures the bright and beautiful colors that are found in flowers.
I work primarily with acrylic paint creating modern abstract pieces. My process includes a lot of layers, shapes and textures. It is very unprocessed. I can be working on a piece all day, then I will leave it, add to it little by little, start over multiple times adding texture and layers giving it a past. Each of my paintings have their own life behind each brush stroke. Sometimes I try to recreate a process I have previously done, but the outcome can be the complete opposite, sometimes for the better.
My paintings are bold yet simplistic just like the flowers I take my inspiration from. Take a white rose, simple, beautiful, yet striking and bold it has hidden shades and imperfect petals. This is what I portray in my work, I build the layers and textures allowing the painting to grow just as flowers do. They are unique just like every flower.

Episode 21: Rose Bishay - Exploring her Entrepreneurial Business
Our special guest Rose Bishay, who thinks creatively shares her journey into building an entrepreneurial business.
Rose Bishay - How she became an entrepreneur. And the process she went through in developing and selling her key product - These Hands Lotion Mask.
Rose discusses coming from a family of entrepreneurs, being a woman entrepreneur and the entrepreneurial life. She also talks about how she started her business, mistakes that she made, challenges she faced and her work routine.
About Rose:
Rose is a twenty-something living in LA. She runs These Hands Lotion and loves celebrating the small but life changing tasks people do with their hands everyday. She started formulating beauty products on her kitchen table and has since grown her bespoke lotion company into a large business. She has a degree in Computer Science & Engineering and a background in social media marketing. She loves connecting people and helping those around her.
About These Hands Lotion:
I’ve always struggled with dry hands and eczema and loved trying different beauty products. Nothing really worked great for me. Over time I started experimenting and making my own hand masks and creams. I had my family and friends try my cream and they raved about how good it was and asked where they could buy some:) And so I was in business. But I wanted it to be more than just a product, I wanted to not only help people’s hands be happy but I also wanted to give back. Which is why I use the best ingredients I can find and donate 10% of all profits.
I chose the name because it has always struck me how important our hands are. I used to look at my grandma's hands, she had immigrated from Europe and had so many different jobs. I used to think of all the things they had done caring for children, cooking and working many different jobs. There is such beauty in the small but life changing tasks we do with our hands everyday.
Each of us has such a different story and I want to recognize how many amazing things each person does with their hands. They deliver babies, they rescue people, they nurture loved ones with food, they help people, they say hello, they make big business deals, perform life saving surgeries, sign treaties and laws into action and most importantly they love. Hands are the cornerstone of our world, responsible for our evolution and ultimately one of the most important things for us to take care of.
These Hands Lotion Hand Mask is a product that helps keep hands healthy and happy, a product that not only moisturizes but also proclaims a message - These Hands Support Others!
WHAT DID YOUR HANDS DO TODAY?

Thought Row Episode 19: Mental Wellness Journey for Creative People
Jennifer Mazur - Raised under the Florida sun and living in tune with Swedish nature, I come from a long line of artists. My art is fueled by my need to address Mental Wellness. I find inspiration in colors, textures, nature, women and music. And I use my art to raise my voice as a platform to smash the mental health stigma.
I am a mixed media artist. In this collection “Windows”, I used a combination of watercolors and inks and mounted on natural wood.
The women I’ve created in this collection are my message to the world that there is no shame in our diagnoses. None. That they are common and normal and part of what makes us the gorgeous individuals that we are.
That no matter what, it is ok to be authentic and share our lives. That the more we talk about and show our reality -the more "normal" it becomes. That everyone is battling their own demons and that is a part of life.
And that authenticity is freeing.
That is what my women represent. They live behind a society imposed filter - afraid of judgement and they are trying to break free. But it isn’t easy. So in their moment of wanting to reach out and honestly connect, they show you a glimpse…
What do you see when you get a momentary look into the window of their soul?

Thought Row Episode 18: When Collaboration Celebrates Creative Talents
Dominique Nancy Darren Sleep Lisa Lawrence
What are the chances of three artists with completely different passions and interests, living on opposite sides of the world crossing paths, let alone forming a unique collaboration? Dominique Nancy, a sustainable fashion and style blogger from Canada, Lisa Lawrence, artist and graphic designer from the USA and Darren Sleep, botanical artist and photographer from the United Kingdom. Each of them began their respective blogs on WordPress about three years ago, however none of them could have imagined how life would ultimately change as a result.
Seeking a new direction and feeling like something was missing in their life, each of them branched out into their own field. Eventually, through the power of the internet and exchanging comments on each other’s blogs, they soon realized they had much in common. Their shared aesthetic appreciation and love for the natural world drew them together and in time, and over many online conversations, friendship blossomed, and an idea was born.
The idea was a unique cross-blog collaboration called “When Fashion and Nature Collide” (WFNC) launched in March 2018. In this creative project, every month they present their own version of an agreed theme. The reader will see outfits styled by Dominique and art from Lisa and Darren, inspired by Darren’s critter and flower pictures. Although they often share images, they don’t share their text until publication day, which makes for an utterly compelling project to see each article and how each of the artists interprets their version.
Their way of working is very organic. Sometimes a photograph of a flower or creature, or a piece of artwork by Lisa or Darren, will inspire Dominique to style an outfit. Sometimes an outfit idea is already in place and a color or texture will prompt a search for a matching flower or critter. Their themes have covered diverse topics that have ranged from butterflies to nuts.
Dominique is a French scientific journalist from Quebec, Canada and the fashionista of the team. With a deep love of science, writing and fashion it was inevitable she would combine all three in a project and in 2016, as a gift to herself on her 50th birthday she began her blog 3C Style. This blog allows her a creative outlet to bring knowledge and facts about clothing and brands. Her main goal is to provide sustainable fun-loving fashion tips and good vibes.
In her own words she is “polished, fun and feminine”, blending minimalism with a love for details. Dominique is passionate about combining colors that blend with nature and eco-friendly brands. She is often the driving force behind many of the inspirations with her contribution going way beyond the styling. Dominique feeds the creation of designs incessantly in the form of doodles or slogans, which both Lisa and Darren feed from.
Lisa was raised in a small town in Michigan, surrounded by flowers, nature and antiques. Inspired by nature, vintage art and typography Lisa’s career has followed her passion with a keen interest in protecting the environment. Her love of art, paper and writing saw her launching her first blog, Pen, Paper and Petals in 2016 which soon bloomed into Lismore Paper. Today she loves to inspire others to find the happiness that creativity can bring.
“I love fashion and have always loved the vintage frills. I have created private artwork with fashion, but have never shared it”, says Lisa of the WFNC project. Lisa now sells high quality digital paper for art and crafters through her Etsy shop, Lismore Paper Co. “It’s exciting, because of this project, I have the opportunity. And the friendships made with other like-minded people has had a significant and positive impact in my life. I have grown as an artist and as a person.”
Darren Sleep from Lancaster, England credits this collaboration as a turning point in his battles with depression. Being introverted by nature and holding down a stressful job, his garden was his main escape and he often filled his time with different hobbies to fill the void and ease feelings of isolation.
In his mid-forties he dabbled in botanical illustration and discovered a new love which was to see him go on and gain a distinction in the Society of Botanical Artists diploma in 2016. However, depression hit Darren hard in 2017 and stress led to a breakdown. Part of his recovery included starting a blog, The Arty Plantsman, which reflected his artistic, emotional journey, all blended with an underlying humor.
This blog was a life changer for Darren and by connecting with his two partners he forged friendships which were to pull him out of the depths of self-doubt and uncertainty. The support of passionate, like-minded people has given him a sense of confidence, camaraderie and shared purpose which is evident every month they present their shared themes. “I am delighted to be working with such lovely and talented people” he says. “Working in this partnership has given me the confidence to spread my wings and evolve as an artist”.
This is not a conventional collaboration and working at a distance requires many conversations via different media. Despite the time zone differences, their day jobs and family schedules they make it work.

Thought Row Episode 14: Adventures in Plein Air Landscape Painting with Deborah Czernecky
Deborah Czernecky
“Painting gives me a feeling of great freedom and a reason to explore or go see what is around the next corner” - Deborah Czernecky
Deborah Czernecky is an established Canadian Artist who comes from a family with an array of artistic abilities. Growing up in the interior of British Columbia she developed a life-long passion for paint and nature, particularly in its spirituality, and having traveled widely from ‘coast to coast to coast’, Deborah likes to refer to Canada as her ‘big backyard’. In pursuit of her love of painting, Deborah has extended her travels across the globe, inspired by the variety of scenery that heightens the sense of colour, formation, and pattern within her works.
Deborah is an Elected Member of the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA) and an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA). While primarily an “en plein air” painter, she has produced a diverse body of work ranging from the raw power of the majestic Canadian Rockies to the serenity of an early “Morning Row” in the mist on the lake (selected by Ducks Unlimited for its 2018 Art Portfolio). From the ghostly aura of medieval Templar temples to the enthusiastic joy of colourful bicycles in Costa Rica. Whether it’s painting on location or in the studio, Deborah combines her dynamic palette with elements of abstraction and traditional realism to convey the essence of the subject matter.
Being immersed constantly in the beauty of the outdoors, Deborah has the opportunity to share her experiences through her artwork. Inspired by each element nature brings, from rattlesnake encounters to the forces of nature, Deborah believes there is a greater meaning to what we see in front of us. To her, a tree is not just a tree but it’s a symbol of life and growth, and although nature is key to her inspiration, so is the community she is surrounded by. She enjoys being able to create relationships with the public through questions they ask about her art, her passion, and her story.
When Deborah is not painting, she continues her love for teaching, having taught classes part time. Her philosophy for teaching drawing or painting is “No Stress” as she wants her students to enjoy the moment while learning the foundations of these mediums.
The wonders of nature are part of what inspired me to start “en plein air” painting. Everything has a greater meaning than what is seen before us. That’s why, wherever you go, there is always something new to see and be in awe about. Soak it in.

Thought Row Episode 13: Market and Sell Your Art
Gavriella Abekassis
My name is Gavriella Abekassis, and my mission is to give to artists the marketing and sales trainings they are lacking, so they can make a living by selling art independently, without waiting for galleries to give them opportunities.
I started supporting artists with sales and business growth in March 2020, after having worked in galleries and assisted artists for 5 years.
While in galleries, I worked in sales, marketing, artist liaison, museums and institutions liaison, shipping and packing artworks, putting exhibitions together, event and office management, art performance and installation research, accountancy as well as (too?) many other administrative tasks.
While gaining experience in art galleries, I realized that most visitors in galleries are artists who were trying to enter the community of art galleries, because they were told it’s the only way to sell art.
I am what we could call “self-taught” in online marketing and sales. I’ve learned directly from several six and seven figure business owners.
I’ve always loved both art and entrepreneurship. The Artist Entrepreneur Club was the perfect way for me to combine both fields, which I now understand, have so many points in common.
I also love to work with artists in 1 to 1 sessions, and I only do this when I think that we are the right fit. I will tell you if I think this is not the case during a complimentary call.
I have now helped more than 95 artists grow their online marketing and sales, as I know what are the important points an artist entrepreneur should nail if they want to grow their business consistently.
In the first year of helping artists with growing their sales, several have started selling for more than £10,000 of artworks with only a few tweaks added to their marketing

Thought Row Episode 12: Mary Ann Prack - Conversation with a Contemporary Woman Sculptor
Mary-Ann Prack was born in Ontario, Canada. As a third generation member of an architectural engineering family, both art and architecture were a strong component of her early life experiences and surroundings. She began her formal fine art education at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario, continued at the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale and Florida Atlantic University, where she studied both fine art and interior design. Mary-Ann became a full time visual artist in 1986 and for over thirty five years has worked with clay as a pure sculpture medium. There is nothing traditional about her approach to or use of clay in terms of subject, design, scale or glazing techniques. Prack creates sculpture that is distinctive, precise, and with geometric purity of surface, color, and form. She hand builds each piece using a specially formulated clay that has a stone-like hardness, strength and consistency suitable for her large-scale clay constructions. Prack began painting in 2004 after an illness briefly left her unable to do the heavy work sculpture requires. Since then painting has become as important to her artistic expression as sculpture. Though different in approach, the energy, spirit and her distinctive artistic presence is most evident whenever her sculpture and paintings are experienced together. Mary-Ann’s home, studio and sculpture garden are located in the mountain community of Jefferson, NC.

Thought Row Episode 11: Inside Thoughts from an Art Curator
Maurice Quillinan grew up in Limerick, Ireland. He studied at the Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD), the Royal College of Art, London (RCA), the Ecole Nationale Superieur des Arts, Paris and the University of Limerick (UL).
He has travelled extensively which invariably has informed his work. Central to his practice is a strong set of spiritual values which underlie his exploration of existence, using the landscape and the figure as metaphors for the metaphysical challenges we encounter. This internal dialogue manifests as layered and blurred works, which suggest that there are many meanings and explanations for the spiritual, psychological and physiological conundrums we are introduced to.. images that suggest that we don’t have the knowledge to ask questions let alone expect coherent logical replies.
He has been a recipient of a number of awards, including: Limerick City Scholarship (VEC) award, The Henry Moore Foundation Scholarship, a number of Arts Council awards and bursaries.
His love of classical music (which is constantly playing in his studio) informs the emotional and psychological aspect of his painting and drawing. Poetry is also another informative interest, especially the poetry of TS Eliot and the contemporary American poet Brian Turner. Other interests include contemporary military history. He completed his thesis in UL , researched around the use of helmet cams used by the various participants to record the war, mostly in Iraq. This came about as a questioning of the validity and or usefulness of commissioning artists to record modern conflicts in traditional formats.
He has exhibited widely both in Ireland and internationally. His work is represented in public and private collections of thirty four countries.

Thought Row Podcast Episode 4: A Conversation with CM Curtis Best Selling Amazon Author on his success story and advice to upcoming writers and authors
C.M. Curtis has been writing novels for over two decades. He has published eleven works of fiction, five of which have become number one best sellers on Amazon. Curtis has written in several genres but the bulk of his books are westerns.
If you’re looking for western novels with the same old recycled plots and characters, don’t buy a C.M. Curtis novel. C.M. Curtis is not an average author, and his books are far from average. His plots have been described by critics as being, “Refreshingly original,” his characters as being, “Far more real and engaging, than characters in run-of-the-mill westerns.” The average western novel lacks the power to thrill a non-western reader. This is clearly not true of a Curtis novel. Countless readers have said they do not like westerns, but love C.M. Curtis’s westerns and read everything he writes. Curtis westerns are simply an enjoyably unique kind of fiction that happens to be set in the old west; the kind of books that can be read over and over and will be enjoyed for generations.

Thought Row Podcast Episode 1: Entrepreneurial Creativity
Interview with Rose Bishay - How she became an entrepreneur. And the process she went through in developing and selling These Hands Lotion Mask.
Her experiences in website development and using various social media platforms to attract customers.
