Episode 15: Self Talk You Become What You Think About All Day Long

Tired of the inner dialogue that saps your creativity and energy? Hosts Rod and Inci Jones share thoughts and ideas on how you can improve your self talk and how it impacts your life and creativity in our contemporary world.

Show Notes:

R: Hi everyone...And here we are...Celebrating what people love to do creatively... I’m Rod Jones

I: And I’m Inci Jones...Welcome to the Thought Row podcast. We invite you to subscribe wherever you listen. We are available virtually anywhere you listen to your podcasts.

R: That’s right Inci...We’ve learned, people want to think more creatively, and will benefit from our weekly shows. What are we discussing today? I know we’re not going to have a guest.

I: As you know Rod we have some pretty amazing guests scheduled over the next several weeks.

R: That’s right, I know we have an opera singer and a makeup artist..who else?

I: I’m really excited that we’re also going to be interviewing an artist that will share her mental wellness journey for creatives.

R: That is going to be very informative and interesting to hear her life’s experiences. Who else?

I: I know we have a photographer, a jewelry designer, and next week’s show we’re actually going to be hosting three people besides ourselves on a podcast discussing When Collaboration Celebrates Our Creative Talents.

R: And that call is going to have guests on our podcast from three different countries.

I: That will be a great show for people that might be interested in collaborating internationally with other creatives.

R: I know we have a whole line up...but what are you and I going to chat about today?

I: I thought we would have a discussion based on this quote from Bruce Lee.

R: Bruce Lee...the famous martial artist and apparently a great philosopher.

I: Here’s his quote that I dearly love, “Don’t speak negatively about yourself even as a joke. Your body doesn’t know the difference. Words are energy and cast spells, that’s why it’s called spelling. Change the way you speak about yourself and you can change your life. What you’re not changing, you’re also choosing.”

R: Wow! There is a lot of wisdom packed into this quote. What is your first take away from this quote?

I: Be mindful of the words you speak about yourself.

Discussion

I: What about you Rod...what are your thoughts about this quote?

R: My first impression was it seems to always get down to that other famous quote, “We become what we think about all day long.”

Discuss

R: Another thought was a Lincoln quote where he said, “People are just about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

Discuss

I: It seems to me that women have a real issue when it comes to self image. They are so often judged on their looks and not necessarily their brain power.

Discuss

R: Another issue that we all have is living vicariously through our possessions. I know that is a biggy for men. Especially when it comes to cars and tools.

Discuss

I: What about what we are taught when we are very young. A well-meaning parent or teacher can really create havoc on a child’s self esteem, which can last a lifetime.

Discuss

R: Self Talk...Kinda gets back to Bruce Lee’s quote. Morning, noon and night every person chats with themselves internally.

Discuss

I: We hope that you jot down Bruce Lee’s quote. Or better yet...We will have it on our website for you to download as a screensaver on your devices.  And it’s free.

R: Guess what? I already have it on my phone. It’s just too good not to think about everyday. In fact, I read it every morning.

I: Good for you. It’s a great way to keep that at the forefront of your thoughts. Especially when you read it first thing in the morning.

R: This has been a really good conversation about self-talk and how important it is to your well being.

I: Yes...self image impacts our happiness and our success in life. It’s something that we all need to pay more attention to.

I: Remember everyone if you’d like to have a screensaver of the Bruce Lee quote. I put it up for you on our website at ThoughtRowPodcast.com

R: Thank you everyone for listening.

I: Please remember to subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts.
